shortnote- determination of fungi involved in sugar beet root rot and their distribution in kermanshah province

چکیده
many fungi cause sugar beet root rot during various stages of the plant growth. among them rhizoctonia spp. induce crown rot, dry rot and violet root rot on sugar beet (whitney and duffos,1986). root rot caused by phytophthora drechsleri has been observed in fields with excessive moisture (habibi,1975). pythium aphanidermatum has been recognized as one of the causal agents of sugar beet, damping-off, root rot and seed deterioration (ahmadinejad and okhovat, 1976). rhizopus arrhizus has been also reported as one of the fungi involved in crown rot of sugar beet (habibi,1977). in order to determine pathogenic fungi involved in sugar beet root rot and their distribution in kermanshah province, this investigation was carried out during 1998-1999. forty-one fields in different parts of the province were surveyed. at every field some information about previous crop in rotation, method of irrigation, source of irrigation water and disease severity was recorded. from each field, 2-5 root samples showing root rot symptoms were collected and transferred to laboratory. a soil sample was also collected and analyzed in the laboratory. ninty eight isolates belong to fusarium spp., rhizoctonia solani ,binucleate rhizoctonia , phytophthora drechsleri , pythium aphanidermatum , rhizopus arrhizus , rhizopus stolonifer , macrophomina phaseolina , phoma betae , mucor spp. and geotrichum sp. were isolated. in this study, although the majority of the isolates belonged to fusarium spp., they could not induce root rot symptoms in pathogenicity tests. the most severe symptoms of root rot were induced by r. solani , p. drechsleri , p. aphanidermatum and r. arrhizus. among soil specifications, only soil saturation percent had a weak relationship with disease severity and other factors showed no distinct relation with disease symptoms. figure 1 shows distribution of the fungi involved in sugar beet root rot inkermanshah province.

A study to determine whether root rot infestations can be detected using high spatial resolution digital multispectral video (DMSV) data was conducted in the Imperial Valley of California. DMSV data were collected on two dates over 25 fields during the summer of 1999 using a light aircraft. The DMSV images included four spectral bands centered on 530 nm, 570 nm, 650 nm and 750 nm, with nominal ...
متن کاملLeuconostoc spp. Associated with Root Rot in Sugar Beet and Their Interaction with Rhizoctonia solani.
Rhizoctonia root and crown rot is an important disease problem in sugar beet caused by Rhizoctonia solani and also shown to be associated with Leuconostoc spp. Initial Leuconostoc studies were conducted with only a few isolates and the relationship of Leuconostoc with R. solani is poorly understood; therefore, a more thorough investigation was conducted. In total, 203 Leuconostoc isolates were ...

abstract the root and foot rot of wheat is one of the important disease of wheat over the world. the root and foot rot of wheat observed more frequently in the resent years at khorasan province (northeast of iran). for investigation the causal agents, several samples were collected from wheat fields of north khorasan in 2007 and 2008. culture of diseased parts of plants on pda resulted. fusariu...
متن کاملAntagonistic Activities of Trichoderma spp. on Phytophthora Root Rot of Sugar Beet
Trichoderma species are among important antagonists of plant pathogenic fungi. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the biocontrol potential of native Trichoderma spp. isolates from sugar beet fields against Phytophthora drechsleri and P. cryptogea, the causal agents of Phytophthora root rot of sugar beet. During 2007–08, 85 isolates of Trichoderma spp. from sugar beet fields in eight...
متن کاملTemperature, moisture, and fungicide effects in managing Rhizoctonia root and crown rot of sugar beet.
Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-2 is the causal agent of Rhizoctonia root and crown rot in sugar beet; however, recent increases in disease incidence and severity were grounds to reevaluate this pathosystem. To assess the capacity at which other anastomosis groups (AGs) are able to infect sugar beet, 15 AGs and intraspecific groups (ISGs) were tested for pathogenicity on resistant ('FC708 CMS') and sus...
